4. Isham Flinn was born on 10 Mar 1826/1829 in , Jackson, Tennessee. He died on 3 Jun 1903 in Lee's Summit, , Missouri. Isham married Hulda Wells in , , Utah. [Parents]
Isham was a member of the original LDS church and attended the
Nauvoo Church around 1845. He was endowed in the temple there
January 23, 1846 and ordained a Seventy about that same time. He must
have joined the 'exodus' to Utah as he was listed in the 1851 Utah
Census. He married Hulda Wells and at some point in their disagreeing
with the way the church was going, were expelled from the LDS church
and advised to go to San Bernadino Co., California where Gladden Bishop
had a group of saints. They left Salt Lake City in 1855 and traveled
west choosing to go the Mountain Pass route instead of through Death
Valley. This turned out to be a good decision as many travelers perished
going the desert route.
Isham and Hulda lived in San Bernadino with her parents in 1860 and
stayed there for about 15 years choosing to then return to the midwest.
They settled for a while in Houston Township, Smith Co., Kansas and
later lived in other parts of Kansas.
Isham was re-baptized into the Reorganized Church on Oct. 20, 1869 by
I.N. Roberts and Hulda was baptized July 9, 1864 in San Bernadino by H.H
Morgan. She later attended the Independence, Missouri branch.
Milva Perline received a 1st edition of the Book of Mormon from her
mother Hulda and later passed it on to her niece Freda Flinn (Watson).Isham bought a burial plot in Pleasant Grove cemetery for $2.50 on
January 28, 1892. However, he is actually buried in the Lee's Summit
City Cemetery at 291 and 3rd Street. So is his wife Hulda Wells.
5. Hulda Wells was born on 16 Sep 1841 in , Van Buren, Iowa. [Parents]
The Wells family seems to have had some connection with the early
LDS church as they ended up in Utah and after becoming discouraged with
the church went on to San Bernadino, California to live with the saints
and Gladden Bishop. Salome Sr. was baptized the same day as her two
daughters Hulda and Salome Jr.: June 9, 1864 by H. H. Morgan and
confirmed by Morgan and Faulk. They too moved back to the midwest (
Otha probably died in California) into Kansas.
The Wells were in Morgan Co. Illinois until 1839. In the 1840 Census
they were in Van Buren Co., Iowa and in 1850 were in Fremont Co., Iowa.
Between 1850 and 1860 they went to Salt Lake City, Utah. In the LDS
records Otho Wells and Salome Stewart were married (again) on August
27, 1853, perhaps a Mormon requirement.
